Looking for an unusual gift? Polo: a game that involves hitting a small ball with a long stick whilst travelling at speed on board a vehicle with a mind of its own. Sounds insane? Find out for yourself at the world’s largest polo training academy. Start off being briefed on the basic rules and theory of polo by expert instructors. Then have lots of time to practice polo riding, ball hitting, hooking, and riding off. After training change into proper polo gear and mount your horse, and then it’s time to put what has been learnt into practice by playing an instructional chukka. Afterwards why not stay and watch other matches? Fast-paced, skilful and with the fantastic sound effect of thundering hooves, polo is a great sport to play and to watch.

Runs Saturdays in winter (October to March) and Saturdays and Sundays in summer (April – September).

Polo is rarely cancelled due to bad weather.

How long does the experience last?

Your two hour lesson will be followed by an instructional chukka follows, concluding around 11.30am, then there are either polo matches or practise sessions for you to watch in the afternoon, finishing around 5pm.

How many other people?

There is usually a ratio of 4 to 6 participants per instructor.

Can I take people to watch?

Spectators are welcome at the club and can watch play from the grandstands. Dogs are allowed, provided they are well behaved and kept on a lead.

What do I wear?

Dress warmly and comfortably. Wear jodhpurs if you have them. Bring riding boots or a pair of substantial shoes or boots with a low, solid heel (no high heels!). Bring a pair of thin leather or cotton gloves and a riding hat if you have them.

Are there any restrictions?

Minimum age is 6. Minimum height is 5′. Minimum weight is 6 stone, maximum 20 stone. Please let us know when booking if you weigh more than 15 stone, so we can ensure a suitable horse is available. Suitable for experienced riders and complete novices.

Anything Else?

Lunch isn’t included in this experience, but is available on the day at an extra charge. After your experience you can watch a full match between two club sides. The rules of the game dictate all players must use the polo stick with their right hand.
