Go out together white water rafting in Scotland on the River Tay in an inflatable eight person raft. After being kitted out with all the equipment get a full safety briefing and instruction in white water rafting techniques. An experienced guide takes you both for a series of runs down the breathtaking twists, turns and drops of the mighty River Tay. You’re in for a wild and wet ride as you steer the raft through some of Scotland’s beautiful scenery as this speeding river winds down the Tay valley, rushing through rolling hills and stunning scenery. As a guide Scotland’s River Tay is graded 1 – 3 on the UKs white water rafting grading system which starts at 1 (relaxed) and goes up to 6 (too rough to offer commercially).

Availability

Selected weekends from April to November. Spring and autumn are the best times to raft, as water levels are higher than in the drier summer months. Summer weekends fill quickly – book six to eight weeks in advance.

Weather

Rafting will go ahead in almost all conditions. Although extremely rare, certain weather conditions may lead to postponement for safety reasons. If this happens, the venue will call you within 24 hours on the last minute contact number you provide.

How long does the experience last?

Your session will last for around two hours from initial introduction to a debrief. Please arrive a few minutes early to register and change, and allow for time afterwards to shower and change.

How many other people?

Your raft holds up to eight people plus a qualified instructor.

Can I take people to watch?

Spectators are welcome, but please call the venue in advance to advise them of numbers. Viewing is limited due to the nature of the course and spectators might have to wait for you at the starting point.

What do I wear?

Bring swimwear, a towel, old tracksuit/leggings, a sweatshirt and old trainers. You will get wet! Wetsuits and helmets are provided, plus jackets and cagouls if required. Ideally glasses should be removed, if not they must be secured with elastic.

Are there any restrictions?

Minimum age is 10. You must be confident in the water but you don’t need to be able to swim as buoyancy aids are provided for everyone. Any medical conditions must be declared before booking and the venue reserves the right to test your fitness.

Anything Else?

Participants WILL get wet, but there are hot shower facilities at the venue. Jumping from the raft into still practice waters is part of the initial training session.
