For a day out in the country, take a drive to Sussex to travel on the famous Bluebell Railway heritage line, then visit Wakehurst Place, the botanical garden country estate of the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew. Start from Sheffield Park station, fully restored to a fine Victorian ambience, before boarding a magnificent steam locomotive which departs three times a day (more on Saturdays) on a picturesque 11 mile route with three further station drop offs, each one emulating the 1940s, 50s or 60s – hop on and off where you wish. Next, head to the botanical splendor of internationally renowned Wakehurst Place (around 20 minutes drive away) which provides a natural feast for the senses, featuring woodland, lakes, formal gardens and more – perfect!
