Piaggio Ape Racing
A fun Experience in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire.
Try the crazy thrill of Piaggio Ape racing in Hertfordshire, exclusive to Red Letter Days and seen in Top Gear magazine. The three wheeled vehicles have been Italian style icons since 1949 and for this experience, they’ve been upgraded to racing spec with added stabilisers. After an introduction on how to drive the Ape, split into teams of two and have 20 minutes of practice laps to decide qualifying positions. Then it’s time to race! With a proper Le Mans start, race across the track, jump in the right Ape, get the engine started and go! During the 40 minute race, decide a driving strategy with pit stops to switch drivers. Race on a 1 kilometre circuit and the top three teams are rewarded with a trophy!
Runs between Sunday – Friday at least once every two months throughout the year.
Racing might be cancelled or curtailed in extreme weather conditions (e.g. snow, ice, heavy rain or high winds) which would make driving at speed dangerous.
Lasts around two hours, with a total of one hour on the track (including 30 minutes of hands-on driving time per driver).
Teams are split into groups of two and up to ten teams race on the day.
Unlimited numbers of spectators can cheer you on and are welcome to make use of the cafe and clubhouse facilities on-site.
A racing suit and helmet are provided. Wear flat shoes. Scarves cannot be worn when driving.
Minimum age is 16. Minimum height is 4’6” and maximum is 6’6”. Maximum weight is 18 stone. This experience isn’t suitable for anyone with a back or neck complaint or for pregnant women.
