Image: Nest of bees dug out by a badger (Meles meles).

Comments

Badgers will dig up and eat the nests of bumble bees as well as wasp nests. When a badger attacks a wasp nest, there are usually fragments of the papery nest left in the hole. However, bees' nests seem to be eaten in their entirety, no doubt because they contain honey as well as juicy larvae. All that remains to tell the tale is a small hole in the ground, and a few bees.
