Comments

This sett was attacked by badger diggers. Here, a police Wildlife Crime Officer inspects some of the damage; the sett was devastated and the surviving badgers abandoned it.

The diggers had long since gone when the WCO and I found the evidence of their activities; this is often the case. However, by recording where the badger's enemies are active, Badger Groups can find out which areas need to be watched more closely in the future, to increase the chances of catching the diggers in the act.

If you should ever come across men with dogs and spades at a badger sett, it is essential that you call the police as quickly as possible. Do not approach the diggers yourself, as they may attack you with their spades, or with other weapons. If you find a sett which has already been attacked, like this one, tell your local Badger Group or WCO so that a proper record of the incident can be made.
