The badgers are nature's digging machines. Their forepaws are equipped with long claws, which are used to dig for food and to create dens. Badgers have contrasting dark and light patterns on their faces or bodies. This is warning colouration: most of the badgers have powerful jaws or the ability to emit unpleasant odours in self-defence - or both!
