Launched on June 16th! One of the last places you might expect badgers to live is within the busy town of Northampton. But there are a surprising number of badgers within the Borough boundaries, from the undeveloped fringes to within a mile of the town centre. Brockwatch wants to learn more about badgers in the Borough of Northampton. We want to know where they live, where they feed, and what they feed on. We also want to learn about the problem Northampton's badgers face - and what problems they cause. So on National Badger Day (Saturday June 16th) we launched the Northampton Badger Project. Through this project we are asking people to pass on information about badgers in Northampton. In particular, we are asking people to tell us if they know of any badger setts in the Borough (past or present), if they have seen a badger within the town (live or dead) or if they have found any other evidence of badger activity. An important part of the Northampton Badger Project is our Garden Badger Survey. We know that there are people in Northampton who have badgers visiting their gardens. But how many people? And what do they think about their black and white guests? To answer these questions (and more) we have prepared a simple survey form, and we want as many Northamptonians as possible to fill it in and return it to us. To get the Northampton Badger Project and our Garden Badger Survey off to a flying start, on Sunday June 17th we were at Morrisons supermarket on Kettering Road in Northampton. There, we chatted to shoppers about badgers, handed out leaflets and survey forms, and collected donations to support our badger protection work. Very early results from Garden Badger Survey forms completed on the day showed that 75% of people with badgers in their gardens liked having them, while the other 25% wouldn't mind their nocturnal visitors if they didn't cause problems. We would like as many Northamptonians as possible to support the Northampton Badger Project and take part in the Garden Badger Survey. If you have any information about badgers in Northampton, you get in touch with us by phone, e-mail or snail-mail. Our Garden Badger Survey form is also available to download or fill in online here on our website (see below). Complete our Garden Badger Survey formIf you live within the Borough of Northampton, please take part in the Northampton Badger Project's Garden Badger Survey (even if badgers don't visit your garden!) .
