Ewan, a playmate for Ali

Ewan being held by Sue

On the afternoon of April 3rd 2006, just over a week after we rescued Ali, Ewan was spotted tottering about on a road near Everdon. He managed to get onto the grass verge, and curled up. Steve was contacted, and he attended with Sue and Howard Hess.

It was not clear why Ewan was out and about during daylight. Like Ali, he was too young to be above ground. He did not have any obvious wounds, so it seemed unlikely that he had been taken from the nearby sett by a dog. We could only assume that something had happened to his mother and he had crawled out of the sett in search of food. After a search for any other cubs which might have come above ground, we took Ewan to the Leicestershire Wildlife Hospital.

Unlike Ali, Ewan was very vocal and made it very clear that he was hungry! So after taking a few photos, we left Angela Downham of LWH to bottle feed Ewan. But 2-3 weeks later we would be back, to help Ali and Ewan with the next stage of their journey towards a new life in the wild.
