Brenda goes back to the wild

Brenda was in a bad way when Brockwatch Rescue Officer Sue Hess rescued her from a spot near Brackley towards the end of March. A fight with another badger had left her with serious injuries to her neck and one of her ears. Even the vet wasn't sure if she would survive.

Although she may have lost her fight with her attacker, Brenda's battle for survival proved to be more successful. After three weeks of veterinary care, her wounds had healed nicely and she had put on weight. It was time for Brenda to go back to the wild.

Sue, Howard and Steve took Brenda back down to Brackley one evening in mid April, and released her at dusk at a spot very close to where she had been rescued. Most badgers when released run off quickly with barely a backward glance at their rescuers, but Brenda took her time and allowed Steve to take a few photos.

We hope that Brenda will make the most of her second chance - and if she meets another bad-tempered badger we hope she will turn and run!
