National Badger Day

In Britain, the National Federation of Badger Groups (NFBG) does a lot of work to save badgers. All this work costs money though, and NFBG always needs more funds to help with its work.

National Badger Day gives everybody a chance to help raise funds for the NFBG. Badger Day is held on the third Saturday in June each year. That means that in 2003, Badger Day will take place on Saturday June 21st. (Events can also take place on the Sunday of the same weekend.)

On National Badger Day, people all over the country take part in fund-raising events. Most of the events are held by local Badger Groups, but schools and other groups can also take part.

Why not see if you can take part in an event to raise funds for the NFBG on National Badger Day this year? Perhaps your school, youth club, or guides / scout pack could organise an event? Here are some ideas:

Sponsored events are a good way of raising funds. Why not have a sponsored walk, silence, swim, read, or cycle ride?
Selling things is another way of raising funds. Why not have a jumble sale, a second-hand book sale or a bring-and-buy? Or you and your friends could make biscuits or cakes to sell. (Instead of rock cakes, why not make Brock cakes!)
Another way of getting people to give money is to hold an event like a disco, a play or a concert, and charge admission.

Whatever you do, try to have fun while you raise funds!

If you raise funds for the NFBG, you or your group will be sent a special certificate once your donation has been received. But best of all, you will know that you have done something to help Britain's badgers.
