Legal protectionThe Indonesian stink badgerThe Indonesian stink badger Mydaus javanensis has been protected by law in Indonesia since 1979 [w058]. The Palawan stink badgerI do not know whether the Palawan stink badger is protected by Philippene law; as an endemic species it certainly ought to be. Back to: Top / Contents
Habitat protectionThe Indonesian stink badgerPopulations of the Indonesian stink badger occur in the following protected areas: - Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park, Java (one of the first national parks to be established in Indonesia, covering an area of 15,000 hectares) [w059].
- Danau Sentarum National Park, West Kalimantan, Borneo (covering an area of 80,000 ha. in the flood plain of the upper Kapuas river). [w260-03]
The Palawan stink badgerIf there are any protected areas which include habitats occupied by the Palawan stink badger, I have not found out about them yet. Back to: Top / Contents
Research and conservation workThe Indonesian stink badgerI am not aware of any surveys, studies or conservation work being carried out involving this species. The Palawan stink badgerPeter Widmann has observed this species on Palawan and hopes to publish a paper in the not too distant future. Apart from this, I am not aware of any surveys, studies or conservation work involving Mydaus marchei. Back to: Top / Contents
WelfareIt seems unlikely that there are any organisations carrying out work to enhance the welfare of either species of stink badger.
