| Notes: | This e-mail provided information about badgers in Malaysia, specifically the Burmese ferret badger Melogale personata, Everett's ferret badger Melogale everetti and the Indonesian stink badger Mydaus javanensis. The author referred to 'A field guide to the mammals of Borneo' (Payne, Francis, Phillips, The Sabah Society, 1994) which stated that Everett's ferret badger (referred to as Melogale personata everetti) was found in Kinabalu Park, Sabah State, Malaysia and that it may be found on Mt Tambuyukan, Sabah. The author also stated that the Indonesian stink badger (referred to as the Malay badger or teledu, and as the subspecies Mydaus javanensis lucifer) is found in scattered localities in the lowland and low hills of Sabah, and Sarawak. He referred to the classification of the stink badgers with the skunks in the sub-family Mephitinae by Lord Medway. In addition, the author also stated that Dr Lim Boo Liat had reported that the Thailand subspecies of the Burmese ferret badger Melogale personata laotum had been sighted in the northern state of Perlis, Malaysia. |
