| Notes: | In Chapter 4 of this report, the Indonesian stink badger Mydaus javanensis is listed as a common animal with a wide distribution in the Sandakan district of Sabah, Malaysia. The same chapter also shows that the stink badger (referred to as a the Malay badger, local name teledu) and the Burmese ferret badger Melogale personata (local name pulasan lamri) are protected species, with only limited hunting and collection under licence allowed. With reference to the local name of the ferret badger, it is interesting to note that the Malay weasel Mustela nudipes is called pulasan tanah, which suggests that pulasan is a generic name for weasel-like mustelids (although other sources of information show that 'pulasan' is also a Malaysian fruit tree!).
