Ideas for actionAs with most of the other badgers, opportunities to get involved in activities which enhance the welfare or conservation of honey badgers are rather limited. However, there are things that people can do to improve things for this species: - If you see a honey badger, please report your sighting so that a better picture of this badger's distribution and numbers can be built up.
- Keith Begg has put forward several proposals for the protection of honey badgers in South Africa. In particular, he recommends that the unregulated sale of foothold traps in South Africa should be outlawed, and that honey badgers should be granted legal protection through biodiversity legislation under the National Environmental Management Act. If you live in South Africa, support Keith's proposal by writing to your elected representative.
- Something else that you can do if you live in South Africa is to buy badger-friendly honey. This supports those beekeepers who protect their hives from honey badgers without killing them.
- If you have any information about the honey badger, its behaviour, biology, ecology, distribution or conservation, please pass it on so that I can incorporate it into these pages and make it available worldwide.
