What's being done to protect the hog badger

A review of the laws and practical action being taken to protect the hog badger and its habitat.

Legal protection

The hog badger is protected in the following countries:

  • India - Protected under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. [w145]
  • Indonesia. [w058, w260-09]
  • Thailand: Protected under the Animals Protection Act. [w134]

Habitat protection

Populations of the hog badger occur in the following protected areas:

  • China - the Wolong Reserve (Sichuan province). [b140, w156]
  • India - Vangai Reserved Forest (Manipur). [b034]
  • Indonesia - Kerinci Seblat National Park , [w260-07], Gunung Leuser National Park [w153] (both on the island of Sumatra).
  • Thailand - Kaengkrachan National Park [w163], Khao Yai National Park [w057].
  • Vietnam: Cat Tien National Park (Dong Nai province) [w133].

Research and conservation work

I have not been able to find records of any surveys, studies or practical conservation action being taken on behalf of this species.

Welfare

I am not aware of any efforts being made to enhance the welfare of this species in any part of its range.
