Comments
This sett, situated in a wood in west Northamptonshire, is dug into Northampton sandstone (ironstone). It is easy to identify evidence of fresh excavation at setts such as this, as the newly dug out earth is much darker and redder than previously excavated material. The older spoil is paler and yellower. Badgers living in sandy soils such as this often look quite sandy-coloured themselves, as their fur becomes stained by the red earth in which they live.
