Although most badgers involved in road traffic accidents (RTAs) are killed, some are left alive but badly injured. If they are rescued in time and given expert attention by a veterinary surgeon, some of these badgers can be saved. This RTA victim is awaiting an X-ray which will show the extent of the damage to its front leg. Its muzzle has been bandaged for the protection of the vet. Badgers have sharp teeth and strong jaws. Even an apparently comatose animal can bite without warning and inflict a nasty injury.
