Funding from Care for the Wild has enabled many Badger Groups in Britain to pay for 'badgers crossing' road signs to be erected. They have been positioned on stretches of roads where many badgers are killed each year by road traffic. The hope is that when motorists see these signs they will slow down and watch out for badgers, and so avoid accidents. Some groups have found, by keeping detailed records of badger road casualties before and the erection of these signs, that the signs appear to be effective in reducing the number of road casualties.
