A cete of badgers

Image: Eurasian badgers (Meles meles).

Comments

A cete? Yes, that's the name for a group of badgers (the collective noun), though the term is little used.

The cete of four badgers shown here is part of a larger social group of badgers who share the same home range with its setts and feeding areas. This social unit is known as a clan. A badger clan usually consists of several adult males and females, with cubs.

Only Eurasian badgers live in clans. The other species lead solitary lives for the most part, generally only coming together for breeding. Even Eurasian badgers live singly or in pairs in areas where food is scarce.
