Face to face with the Eurasian badger

It is suggested that "badger " is derived from the French word becheur, a digger. That would certainly be appropriate. However, another explanation is that the badger's striking black and white face, its "badge", was the inspiration for its name. One thing is for sure though - one look at that classic striped head, and you know straightaway what type of animal you're face to face with!
