Aviation was once about freedom and adventure, and this flying experience truly recreates nostalgic sensation. After a short pre-flight briefing, don a Biggles-style flying jacket before climbing into the cockpit of a De Havilland Tiger Moth or 1930s Stampe SV4, both of which have been lovingly restored. Feel the rush of the wind from the open cockpit and enjoy spectacular views as the pilot puts the plane through a series of exciting manoeuvres. Subject to weather conditions and at the pilot’s discretion, get the opportunity to take over the controls and discover the sensation that makes these planes so incredible. Back on terra firma, some venues even include a flight certificate to take home as a memento.

Availability

Selected weekend and weekday dates throughout the main flying season from May to September (March to October at some locations) for Tiger Moth at some venues and all year round at others and for Stampe flights. We recommend booking several weeks in advance.

Weather

Flying is weather dependent and it is crucial that you call the weather line on the morning of the flight. These craft are vintage open-cockpit planes and certain weather conditions may result in your flight being rescheduled.

How long does the experience last?

This flight will last for around 30 minutes from chocks-off to chocks-on. Please arrive a few minutes before the scheduled flight time to be kitted out and briefed. Allow for at least one hour on-site.

How many other people?

The briefing may be shared, but only you and a qualified pilot will be in the aircraft during the flight.

Can I take people to watch?

Spectators are welcome. Facilities vary depending on the venue. A camera and a pair of binoculars will come in handy. Pets are not permitted at any airfield.

What do I wear?

As these planes have open cockpits, do wrap up warm. Wear soft-soled shoes. Bring sunglasses and tie back long hair. Flying kit (jacket, headset and helmet) will be provided.

Are there any restrictions?

Min age varies 12 – 18. Max weight 16 – 18 stone. Minimum height 4’10” – 4’11”. If you fit into a standard car seat you should be comfortable in the cockpit. Unsuitable for pregnant women or anyone unable to climb into an open cockpit.

Anything Else?

These vintage aircraft are scrupulously maintained and serviced to ensure your safety.
